The origins of the hookah come from the north western provinces of India along the border of Pakistan in Rajasthan and Gujarat nearly a millennia back. In Persia, before the age of cigar and cigarette, hookha was used for generations and generally they were made from clay. The aristocrasts and wealthy had the upper section of their hookha made from silver and the base was porcelain or crystal. Therefore crafting the hookha's top section became an stage for the silversmiths to exhibit their talent. Since the base was fragile we are left with some real fine metal hookhas. Description: This is Wonderful hand made Persian silver hookha's upper section, late 19th century. The item has Persepolis design with the king on the throne and fighting the mythological beast surrounded with attendants. Decorated with four delicate strings of chains hanging from the body along with small fishes hanging from the middle section. Dimensions: 8 1/4 inches high and 3.5 inches wide. In very good condition with some missing hanging fish.
