The origins of the hookah come from the north western provinces of India along the border of Pakistan in Rajasthan and Gujarat nearly a millennia back. In Persia, before the age of cigar and cigarette, hookah was used for generations and generally they were made from clay. The aristocrats and wealthy had the upper section of their hookah made from silver and the base was porcelain or crystal. Therefore crafting the hookah's top section became an stage for the silversmiths to exhibit their talent. Since the base was fragile we are left with some real fine metal hookahs. Description: This is a real fine hookah crafted in Russia or Germany, by order of a Persian prince in late 19th century. The hookah is porcelain with a silver top and bears the image of Mozafar-Al-Din Shah and the second person future Mohamad-Ali-Shah, while being Quajar Dynasty prince. The height of the item is 17.5 inches, the diameter of the base is 5 inches. Due to fragile material hookahs hardly last intact but this one is in great shape and condition with minor rubbing to the gilt oval circle around the images.
